Ric Forman is an iconic figure in the Napa Valley. Raised in Oakland, Ric graduated from UC Davis and worked his first vintages at Stony Hill and Robert Mondavi in 1967-68. At 25 years of age, he built, developed, and led the winemaking team at Sterling Vineyards from
1969 thru 1978 before again building and making the wines at Newton Vineyards from 1978-
82. It was at this time that Ric purchased his property at the base of Howell Mtn. and planted
the first vines there in 1983. These same 36 year old vines produce the estate Cabernet that is Forman Vineyards along with Chardonnay purchased from the Starr Vineyard in Rutherford. Ric’s Cabernet style has been forged over his many years spent in Bordeaux employing many of same traditional winemaking techniques he was introduced to there. His Cabernet has an old world authenticity; restrained, balanced, complex and age-worthy.
His non-malolactic Chardonnay is barrel fermented and in the style of Chablis with a wonderful tension, flinty minerality and racy acidity.
